Monoclonal antibodies
Monoclonal antibody manufacturing faces many challenges, especially during clarification. High cell densities often lead to insufficient removal during centrifugation, clog filters and/or add steps that reduces yields and increase costs.
Magnetic separation solves these problems by combining clarification and product capture in one streamlined step, replacing centrifugation, filtration, and affinity column-chromatography while boosting yields, throughput, and cost efficiency.

Bridging the gap between upstream processing and downstream processing by replacing legacy methods of clarification
Upstream bioprocessing advancements – like high-density cultures, automation, and single-use technologies – have boosted yield and throughput. However, this intensified productivity does not always translate downstream. Complex feed streams can cause filter clogging, operational stoppages, and maintenance issues. As a consequence, downstream processes have had to adapt, often becoming more complicated and costly.
The root of the problem are the outdated clarification methods – centrifugation and depth filtration – positioned between upstream and downstream operations. These legacy technologies were never fundamentally re-imagined. Instead, they were incrementally improved, despite their drawbacks. Centrifugation is expensive, prone to contamination risks, and can damage delicate biomolecules such as cells. Depth filtration suffers from limited capacity, scalability challenges, and the risk of filter clogging.
Rather than creating truly innovative crossover solutions, many developers have had to rely on ad hoc workarounds downstream.
